Hoang Sa-themed exhibition centre opens in Da Nang city

A centre for exhibiting documents and images on Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago of Vietnam was inaugurated in the central city of Da Nang on March 28.

The exhibition centre, located on Hoang Sa road, was built from December 2015 at total cost of 43.3 billion VND (nearly 1.9 million USD).

As a public unit under the Hoang Sa district People’s Committee, the centre holds special political significance as it displays information, documents and images evidencing Vietnam’s exploration and establishment and protection of its sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes.

Exhibits are showcased in five topics, namely the geographical location and natural conditions of Hoang Sa, Hoang Sa in Vietnam’s ancient documents before the Nguyen Dynasty, Hoang Sa in documents in the Nguyen Dynasty (1802 – 1945), evidence of Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa from 1945 to 1974, and evidence of the sovereignty since 1974.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Chairman of the Da Nang municipal People’s Committee Huynh Duc Tho said as Hoang Sa is a sacred integral part of Vietnam, Hoang Sa-themed exhibition centres could be built in any localities nationwide. Da Nang has continuously managed the whole Hoang Sa archipelago for almost six decades, so it is suitable for this centre to be located on a road named after the archipelago near the East Sea.

In particular, the centre has the shape of the sovereignty seal in the Nguyen Dynasty, which is meant to show that Vietnam established and exercised sovereignty over Hoang Sa very early. Notably, that King Minh Mang of the Nguyen Dynasty put the seal on a document setting up the Hoang Sa flotilla was one of the important landmarks in the establishment and exercise of this indisputable sovereignty, he added.
