Ho Chi Minh City holds Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day ceremony

VOV.VN - The Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, together with a large number of local residents, held the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day ceremony at the Hung Kings Memorial Temple in the Ethnic Culture and History Park in Long Binh Ward on April 26, 2026, the 10th day of the third lunar month.

At the ceremony, Nguyen Phuoc Loc, a member of the Party Central Committee and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, read a commemorative address on the contributions of the Hung Kings.

He said the commemoration is not only an occasion to remember the nation’s founders but also a symbol of the tradition of “remembering one’s roots,” reflecting national spirit, solidarity and the will to strive across generations.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the tradition continues to be upheld and serves as a driving force for the Party organisation, authorities and residents to work together to build and protect a dynamic and compassionate city.

Building on national unity, the city pursues rapid and sustainable development, with each achievement backed by the contribution, participation and benefit of its people. It places residents at the centre, both as drivers and beneficiaries of development, while mobilising social resources.

The city aims to become a modern service and industrial hub and a leading centre for the digital economy, digital government and digital society in Southeast Asia by 2030, with a vision to reach the level of major Asian cities by 2045.

Science and technology, innovation and digital transformation form the foundation for developing a knowledge-based and creative economy, improving added value and the quality of growth. At the same time, the city ensures social welfare, promotes progress and equity, and combines economic development with national defence and security, building a strong people-based foundation for further development.

Nguyen Phuoc Loc said the city will continue to build on national traditions and make greater efforts in the time ahead.

“We are increasingly aware of the responsibility of the city’s Party organisation and its members in the course of the nation’s and the Party’s history. We will continue striving to serve the country and the people and fulfil assigned tasks, while bringing into full play the combined strength of the political system and national unity, together with the whole country and for the whole country,” he said.

Following the address, the ceremonial procession took place, featuring dragon dancers, honour guards, multi-coloured flags, drums and gongs, betel and wine offerings, as well as palanquins carrying offerings, including five-fruit trays and pairs of square and round sticky rice cakes.

City leaders and residents then moved from the main gate along Tre Street to the lotus pond area and the ceremonial ground.

At the Drum House area, after incense offering and ritual readings conducted by ritual committees from local communal houses and temples, city leaders offered incense in tribute to the Hung Kings.

Members of the public later entered to offer incense, flowers and offerings.
