Ovs in Czech Republic, France, Malaysia and US mark Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day
VOV.VN - Vietnamese communities in the Czech Republic, France, Malaysia and the US on April 25 held ceremonies to mark the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day 2026, paying tribute to the nation’s founders and helping preserve cultural identity and community ties abroad.
In the Czech Republic, the ceremony was held at the Sapa Trade Centre in Prague, jointly organised by the Phu Tho and Vinh Phuc fellow-countrymen associations with support from the Vietnamese Embassy and community organisations.
The joint organisation by the two associations marked the first time they co-hosted the event. The programme included a procession, incense offerings and traditional performances, with participation from the community, including younger generations.
In France, the ceremony was held in Paris with coordination between the Vietnamese Cultural Centre in France, the Vietnamese Embassy and community associations. This was the second year the event was organised. The programme combined traditional rituals and cultural performances. Delegates and community members took part in incense offerings in tribute to the Hung Kings, and speakers noted its role in preserving cultural traditions and connecting overseas Vietnamese, especially younger generations.
In Malaysia, the ceremony was held in Kuala Lumpur and co-organised by the Vietnamese Embassy and the Malaysia-Vietnam Friendship Association, with participation from community members, intellectuals and students. Speakers said the worship of the Hung Kings serves as a spiritual reference point for overseas Vietnamese, and highlighted efforts to preserve the Vietnamese language and cultural traditions among younger generations. The programme included incense rituals and cultural performances.
In the United States, the Vietnamese Embassy held a “Towards the Roots” programme in Washington, D.C., marking the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day alongside the April 30 Liberation of the South anniversary and International Workers’ Day (May 1). The event brought together staff of Vietnamese representative offices, as well as experts, students and Vietnamese families working at international organisations.
Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung highlighted the significance of the major national anniversaries, describing the occasion as an opportunity to reflect on national traditions and strengthen solidarity and ties with the homeland. He noted that the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day honours the nation’s founders, April 30 reflects the will for independence and reunification, and May 1 underscores the value of labour and individual contributions.
The event also forms part of the Foreign Ministry’s external information work plan for 2026, while helping strengthen community links and encouraging younger generations to preserve the Vietnamese language and cultural identity.
