Heatwave set to bake northern Vietnam

VOV.VN - The nation’s northern region will endure a heat wave starting from April 11, with daytime temperatures anticipated to rise to as high as 31°C in some localities, according to the National Centre for hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

The centre also revealed that before the start of the major hot spell, northern areas are likely to experience rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.

The most severe heat will be recorded in north-western localities on April 13 before spreading to the central provinces on April 14.

The Central Highlands and southern regions are also experiencing heat waves, with the highest temperatures at 35 to 37 degrees as humidity falls to a low of 45% to 50%. The prolonged heat wave is anticipated to last for a couple of days.

According to details given by meteorologists, this year El Nino is causing heatwaves which gradually weaken and change to a neutral state between April and June, before then changing to La Nina from July to September.

They warned that heatwaves are due to come early this year and they may be more severe than the average of previous years.
