Heatwave intensifies across regions, temperatures may exceed 39°C
VOV.VN - A widespread heatwave is intensifying across the northern and central regions of Vietnam, with temperatures in some areas forecast to exceed 39°C
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the area affected by the heatwave has expanded compared with previous days, while temperatures are expected to rise further in the coming days.
In Northern Vietnam, widespread heat was recorded across most provinces except Quang Ninh and Hai Phong. Daytime temperatures generally ranged from 35 to 37°C, with some areas exceeding 37°C.
Meanwhile, provinces stretching from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang, along with eastern parts of Quang Ngai province in Central Vietnam, also experienced intense heat conditions, with prolonged periods of strong sunshine from midday into the afternoon.
Weather monitoring data showed exceptionally high temperatures on June 1. Northern Son La province recorded temperatures approaching 40°C, while other provinces in the central region such as Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Thanh Hoa reported temperatures ranging from 37°C to above 38°C.
Meteorologists said these figures indicate that the current heatwave is entering a stronger phase.
Forecasts for June 2 suggest that northern provinces, and areas from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang and eastern Quang Ngai in the central region will continue experiencing widespread heat, with temperatures commonly between 35 - 37°C and some locations facing severe heat above 37°C.
Conditions are expected to worsen on June 3, when temperatures are forecast to range from 35°C to 38°C across many areas, with some localities likely to exceed 39°C. meteorological experts have warned that certain regions could experience exceptionally severe heat.
In Hanoi, weather forecasts indicate hot daytime conditions with temperatures between 35°C and 37°C, and some areas potentially exceeding 37°C. Localised showers and thunderstorms may occur in the evening and overnight, although they are not expected to significantly ease daytime heat and humidity.
According to meteorological experts, the widespread heatwave affecting northern Vietnam and the central region from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang is likely to persist over the coming days. Eastern areas from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak are also set to remain under the influence of high temperatures.
Prolonged heat combined with low humidity has increased the risk of fires and electrical incidents in residential areas due to rising electricity demand. Several localities are also facing elevated forest fire risks, particularly in regions experiencing extended dry and hot weather conditions.
Experts warned that actual outdoor temperatures may feel 2°C to 4°C higher than official forecasts, especially in densely populated urban areas and locations with heat-absorbing surfaces such as asphalt roads and concrete structures.
Residents are advised to limit direct exposure to sunlight during peak daytime hours, stay hydrated and take precautions against heatstroke and heat-related illnesses.
With current weather patterns intensifying, Northern and Central Vietnam are entering the peak period of the early summer heat season. Meteorologists are urging the public to closely follow weather updates and proactively prepare for risks associated with extreme heat conditions.
