HCM City tops infection tally as 162 new COVID-19 cases detected
VOV.VN - A total of 285 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), including 279 local cases and 6 imported infections, were recorded June 24, with Ho Chi Minh City registering the highest number of infections at 162 for the whole day.
260 out of 279 domestic cases were detected in areas currently under lockdown.
The majority of new cases found in Bac Giang and Bac Ninh are linked with the outbreaks which have hit industrial parks in the provinces, along with other quarantine and locked down areas.
Most cases in Ho Chi Minh City involve individuals who came into contact with previously confirmed patients, or are related to the outbreak at the Christian mission, Trung Son Food Joint Stock Company located in Tan Tao Industrial Park, or involve people who are already under epidemiological investigation.
The new cases in other localities are either F1 contacts or are closely associated with confirmed outbreaks detected in isolation areas.
Following the latest cases, the nation has so far confirmed 12,506 local infections, along with 1,726 imported ones.
2,985 out of 10.936 local infections recorded in the ongoing coronavirus wave were fully recovered from the virus.
The same day saw an additional 75 COVID-19 patients discharged from hospital, bringing the total number of recoveries up to 5,759.
The daily growing number of new patients has propelled Ho Chi Minh City's infection tally to second in the ongoing wave, thereby surpassing Bac Ninh with 2,173 cases being recorded so far.
A total of 15 pandemic-hit provinces have now gone through 14 days without new infections.
Furthermore, an additional 100,374 people received their COVID-19 vaccine nationwide on June 23. So far, over 2.6 million vaccine doses have been injected, with 137,682 people receiving both full shots.
