Six localities report 42 fresh COVID-19 infections on June 24 morning

VOV.VN - An additional 37 domestic COVID-19 cases and 5 imported infections were recorded over the past 12 hours to 6 a.m on June 24, said the Health Ministry.

Among the new cases, Ho Chi Minh City led with 26, Thai Binh recorded 3, Bac Giang (3), Tay Ninh (2), Long An (2) and Khanh Hoa (1), of which 28 were detected in isolation or lockdown areas.

Of the cases in HCM City, 24 came into contact with previously confirmed patients, and the rest are being contact traced, while those in other localities are either F1 contacts with confirmed patients or under epidemiological investigation.

One day earlier, the country logged a total of 220 new cases of COVID-19, with Ho Chi Minh City recording the highest number of infections at 152, followed by the southern province of Binh Duong at 23.

As many as 10,694 local infections had been recorded across 44 cities and provinces since the latest wave of outbreaks hit the country nearly two months ago, while the total COVID-19 fatalities rose to 70 following the confirmation of another death on June 23.

During the past 7 days in a row, the number of COVID-19 infections in HCM City has crossed 100. Over the past two weeks, the southern metropolis has been registering new local cases without clear sources of transmission every day, meaning that the virus has appeared quietly in the community.

Elsewhere, Hanoi is set to launch an unprecedented large-scale COVID-19 vaccination campaign, with around 200,000 doses being injected per day across the city, according to the municipal Health Department.

A further 100,374 people were inoculated against COVID-19 on June 23 alone in 41 provinces and cities throughout the nation.
