HCM City to train 9,000 highly skilled workers for semiconductor industry

VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City is expected to train at least 9,000 highly skilled workers at the university level and above by 2030 to support the semiconductor industry.

The goal has been outlined in a plan to implement the Vietnam Semiconductor Industry Development Strategy until 2030, with a vision towards 2050.

The plan was recently issued by the municipal administration, aiming to turn the city into a leading semiconductor industrial hub in the region and internationally.

To meet the goal, the city will research and implement policies to support funding for talent training programmes at the university undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

It will build high-quality training programmes from undergraduate to postgraduate levels, serving the development of the semiconductor industry and core digital technologies in line with the needs of businesses.

The city will develop specialized, advanced training courses to enhance the skills of workers in the semiconductor and microchip industries, helping them reach advanced global standards.

Notably, Ho Chi Minh City will consider establish a US$5 million fund for the development of human resources in microchip design, to train and enhance learners’ skills in semiconductor and core digital technology fields.

Besides preparing human resources, the southern metropolis has outlined other important tasks in the plan, such as developing infrastructure, attracting investment, promoting research and development (R&D) and international cooperation, and fostering innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems.

It aims to establish at least one international standard research and development center, along with a strong innovation ecosystem to attract investments from global technology giants.

It also plans to organize at least two competitions and awards annually to encourage innovation in the semiconductor industry.
