Tech giants to discuss global AI, semiconductor development trends in Vietnam

VOV.VN - Around 1,000 experts, scientists, and leaders from tech giants will come to Vietnam in mid-March 2025 to attend an international conference on artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors, heard a press briefing on February 24.

The International Artificial Intelligence – Semiconductors Conference (AISC 2025) themed Innovating Futures: Bridging AI & Semiconductors Globally will be held in both Hanoi and Da Nang from March 12 – 14.

It will bring together leaders from global tech giants such as Google, IBM, Intel, TSMC, Samsung, MediaTek, Tokyo Electron, Panasonic, and Marvell, along with many companies from Silicon Valley, Taiwan (China), the Republic of Korea, Japan, India, and China.

It will also feature distinguished speakers, including Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google; Dr. Christopher Nguyen, founder of Aitomatic; Dr. Le Viet Quoc from Google DeepMind; Dr. Azalia Mirhoseini from Stanford University; and Dr. Anna Goldie, co-developer of AlphaChip.

Delegates will engage in high-level discussions, technical deep dives, and research presentations, as well as fireside chats and bilateral meetings, catering to those with a vested interest at the intersection of AI & Semiconductor industries.

Speaking at the pressing briefing, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Duc Tam noted that Vietnam is at a critical stage as the Politburo has issued Resolution 57, which focuses on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation. The resolution reaffirms that these areas are key drivers of socio-economic development.

To implement Resolution 57, he said, the Government has issued Resolution 03 and approved an Action Programme with 41 targets and 140 tasks. One of the key initiatives is to promote international cooperation in technology development and application and foster an innovation ecosystem in strategic industries such as AI and semiconductors.

The upcoming conference demonstrates Vietnam’s readiness to welcome the world’s leading technology giants, said Tam, adding the country has now established a large-scale semiconductor and AI ecosystem with the engagement of many leading global technology partners.

At the press conference, Vu Quoc Huy, director of the National Innovation Centre (NIC), shared that Vietnam aims to seize the ‘golden opportunity’ to accelerate the development of AI and semiconductor industries. This includes expanding successful cooperation models, such as NVIDIA’s establishment of an AI research and development center in Vietnam.

NIC has been actively promoting international cooperation in technology development and application to build an innovation ecosystem in key industries like AI and semiconductors, he said.

Huy stated that AISC 2025 will serve as a platform for strategic discussions on AI development policies, science and technology, and innovation strategies in Vietnam.

“When major corporations and partners invest in Vietnam, they will drive the supply chain and attract additional investment flows. Moreover, the presence of international corporations will create opportunities for Vietnamese businesses and experts to gain access to cutting-edge AI and semiconductor technologies,” added the NIC director.

According to Bloomberg Intelligence, the global semiconductor market reached US$500 billion by the end of 2024, while AI continues to be a key driver of economic growth. The integration of AI into chip design and manufacturing is attracting massive investments, promising to reshape the industry.

Amid this booming trend, Vietnam is ramping up policies to attract investment and develop AI-semiconductor talent, including scholarships, tuition waivers, and subsidies for chip production costs.

As part of AISC 2025, a pioneering open-source platform for chip manufacturing will officially be launched in Vietnam. The gathering will also mark the entry of Vietnamese tech companies into global AI and semiconductor alliances, to strengthen the country’s position in the high-tech ecosystem.
