HCM City police receive 33 Vietnamese citizens deported from US
VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City police have coordinated with relevant agencies to receive 33 Vietnamese citizens deported from the United States, city police said on May 12.
The group was received in coordination with immigration police at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi and other agencies before completing handover procedures.
The latest repatriation is part of a broader trend as immigration violations and illegal labour activities abroad continue to pose challenges for Vietnamese authorities.
Statistics show that in the first five months of 2026 alone, Ho Chi Minh City received hundreds of deported or repatriated citizens, mainly from the United States and Cambodia.
Many of the cases were linked to limited legal awareness, participation in illegal migration networks or the use of fraudulent travel documents. At the same time, several countries have tightened immigration controls and strengthened enforcement against visa and residency violations.
Beyond receiving deported citizens, Ho Chi Minh City police said they have also implemented support measures to help returnees stabilise their lives after returning home.
The support includes legal assistance related to residency registration, identity document renewal and administrative procedures, as well as coordination with families and healthcare providers for people facing difficulties after deportation.
For individuals without clear residence status or guarantors, local police and the Department of Health coordinate temporary accommodation and care at social assistance centres.
The Immigration Management Division under Ho Chi Minh City Police urged relatives of deported citizens, particularly in cases where communication has not yet been established, to contact police or local social welfare facilities for guidance on sponsorship and family reunification procedures.
Police advised citizens to carefully study the laws of destination countries before going abroad for study, work or settlement. They also called on citizens to comply fully with legal exit procedures and maintain regular contact with Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad for timely protection and assistance when necessary.
