According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, northern regions, including Hanoi, are set to be hit by showers and thunderstorms until July 22.
Despite the wet weather around the capital, northern and central regions will continue to endure the prolonged heat wave, with highs ranging between 35 degrees Celsius and 37 degrees Celsius.
Other provinces ranging from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri will also suffer the effects of hot weather with temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius. Indeed, a number of locations will be forced to endure temperatures exceeding 38 degrees Celsius.
Moreover, showers will occur across northern mountainous regions, with rainfall likely to reach between 100mm and 150mmm per 24 hours in some places. Rainfall is likely to last for up to three days, with the majority of rain occurring at night and early in the morning.
Flash floods and landslides are forecast to occur throughout northern mountainous provinces, especially Lai Chau, Son La, Hoa Binh, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, and Thai Nguyen.
The remainder of the month is set to see the hot spell increase across northern regions, before gradually decreasing in August.
Elsewhere, the central region, especially provinces from Nghe An to Phu Yen, are likely to suffer heat waves lasting for between seven to 10 days.
