Ha Tinh border guards bust large cross-border drug smuggling case

VOV.VN - Border guards of the central province of Ha Tinh said on June 28 they have arrested two Vietnamese men smuggling a huge amount of drugs from Laos into Vietnam.

According to preliminary reports, at 10:55 a.m. on June 24, while patroling along National Highway 8A in Son Kim 1 commune, the border guards caught red-handed Nguyen Dinh Cuong, 30, transporting a large quantity of drugs across the Laos–Vietnam border.

Upon inspection of the suspect’s bag, authoritiesseized14,000 methamphetamine tablets, 2kg of crystal meth, and 100 grams of ketamine.

Further investigation led to the emergency arrest of Nguyen Dinh Van, 30, who was confirmed to be involved in the case.

At the investigation agency, both suspects, hailing from Nghe An province, admitted to being hired to transport the drugs from a Lao national based in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, to Vietnam in exchange for payment.

The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to expand the case and complete the legal documentation necessary to prosecute the individuals involved in accordance with Vietnamese law.
