Ground broken for Truong Sa Museum in Khanh Hoa province
VOV.VN - Authorities in Khanh Hoa province on April 29 broke ground on the Truong Sa Museum, a project marking the 51st anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30).
The groundbreaking ceremony, held in Cam Lam commune, was attended by Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Khac Dinh.
The museum will be built on a site adjacent to the Gac Ma Memorial, covering an area of about 17,100 square metres, with a total investment of VND299.7 billion. The design, selected through a competition and approved by provincial authorities, is inspired by the image of a “sail of peace”.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Chairman of the Khanh Hoa People’s Committee Nguyen Viet Hung said the project not only marks the start of a new cultural work but also pays tribute to the sacrifices made by previous generations in safeguarding national sovereignty.
Once completed in the first quarter of 2028, the museum is expected to serve as a key site preserving artefacts and documents related to the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, while honouring those who have contributed to defending Vietnam’s maritime sovereignty.
The museum is also anticipated to become a cultural and historical highlight, helping attract visitors and contributing to local socio-economic development, Hung said.
The project aligns with the Politburo’s Resolution 09, which sets out the goal of developing Khanh Hoa into a centrally governed city by 2030 and envisions Truong Sa as a national maritime economic and cultural hub as well as a stronghold for safeguarding sovereignty.
Pham Thanh Liem, chairman of the Truong Sa Special Administrative Zone, noted the groundbreaking holds special significance as it coincides with the anniversary of the liberation of the islands, serving as a source of encouragement for personnel and residents living and working in the archipelago.
The museum will also showcase valuable materials documenting the history of defending Vietnam’s seas and islands, reflecting the support and sentiment of people nationwide for those stationed in the country’s frontline maritime areas.
To date, Khanh Hoa Museum has collected and catalogued more than 1,150 items related to Truong Sa, including images, documents, artefacts and documentary films.
