Coast Guard officers vote early while on duty at sea near Truong Sa

VOV.VN - Officers and soldiers serving aboard vessels of the Vietnam Coast Guard Region 2 Command cast their ballots on March 8 in early voting for deputies to the National Assembly and local People’s Councils for the 2026–2031 term while on duty near the Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands.

According to the Truong Sa special administrative zone in Khanh Hoa province, polling stations were set up on islands including Sinh Ton Dong Island, Da Nam Reef and Son Ca Island, allowing coast guard personnel carrying out maritime duties to participate in the election.

Senior Lieutenant Tran Quoc Khanh, deputy captain of Coast Guard Ship CSB 8002 under Flotilla 21 of the Region 2 Command, said the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term was a particularly important political event.

The Party committee and command of CSB 8002 have ensured that officers and soldiers fully understand the significance of the election, he said.

Alongside maintaining combat readiness at sea, the unit arranged time for personnel to study information about candidates so they could exercise their democratic voting rights in accordance with the law.

“This allows us to choose representatives who truly possess both integrity and capability, and who are responsible to the people and the nation,” Khanh said.

“For officers and soldiers performing duties at sea, even though we are far from the mainland and face many difficulties, holding a ballot in our hands makes us feel proud and deeply moved. Each vote reflects the people’s right to mastery and our confidence in the Party’s leadership and the country’s development,” he added.

While coast guard personnel at sea exercised their voting rights, preparations for the election were also being actively carried out at the Region 2 Command headquarters, located in constituency No.35 in Nui Thanh commune, Da Nang city.

Since receiving official election guidelines, the command has strictly implemented directives while strengthening information campaigns to ensure all officers and soldiers clearly understand the purpose, requirements and principles of the election.

Communication activities include producing short video clips about the election for social media platforms such as Zalo and Facebook, broadcasting recorded messages through the internal public address system and regularly promoting election information within units.

Polling areas have been decorated in accordance with guidance from the local authorities in Nui Thanh commune. The command has also installed 12 new notice boards, 42 banners and streamers, four large banners and one large public information board to promote the election.

At the same time, voter lists have been reviewed and detailed participation plans prepared, with clear task assignments to ensure all personnel, equipment and facilities are ready to support the voting process.

In addition, the Region 2 Command has maintained close coordination with local Party committees, authorities and relevant agencies to exchange information and prepare for any possible contingencies.

Patrols, inspections and law enforcement activities at sea have also been intensified to help ensure security and safety during the election period.
