Government approves four-day New Year 2026 holiday for workers

VOV.VN - The Government has approved the Ministry of Home Affairs’ proposal to grant a four-day consecutive New Year holiday.

According to an official dispatch signed by Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra on December 25, civil servants and public employees will have four consecutive days off, starting from Thursday (January 1) to Sunday (January 4). A working day swap will be applied, with Friday (January 2) exchanged for Saturday (January 10).

For private-sector employees, employers are encouraged to adopt the same New Year holiday arrangement as applied to civil servants and public employees, while ensuring full compliance with labour regulations and honouring agreements that provide more favourable benefits for workers.

The Deputy Prime Minister instructed the Minister of Home Affairs to notify administrative agencies, public service units, political organisations, socio-political organisations, enterprises, and employees in accordance with regulations.

Agencies and units are required to arrange duty rosters and work schedules appropriately to ensure uninterrupted operations and the continued provision of public services during the holiday period.

Ministries, agencies, and local authorities are also tasked with implementing suitable measures to encourage businesses and organisations to proactively maintain production and business activities, ensure adequate supply of goods and services, stabilise prices and markets, and support economic growth, while promoting thrift and preventing waste before, during, and after the New Year 2026 holiday.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the working day swap ensures a balanced and uninterrupted holiday for public employees, and helps stimulate tourism and consumer spending, thereby contributing to economic growth. The arrangement does not affect the total annual working time of civil servants and public employees.
