French-speaking countries’ cultures highlighted in Cuba
The Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba and other diplomatic agencies of the International Francophone Organisation (OIF)’s member nations hosted a cultural exchange in Havana, Cuba on March 19 to promote their countries’ cultural identities.
Speaking at the event, Haitian Ambassador to Cuba Bernard Degraff highlighted the crucial role played by the organisation in enhancing solidarity, friendship, cooperation and cultural exchanges among the French-speaking nations.
A wide range of cultural activities were arranged for the event, from art performances, photo exhibitions, and French-language writing and singing contents to literature readings, film screenings and workshops on the history of OIF’s member countries.
Vietnam’s traditional long dress (Ao Dai) and traditional dishes were introduced during the event. Established in 1970, the OIF groups together 57 member states and 23 observers. Vietnam was one of the founding countries.
The OIF has maintained active cooperation with Vietnam, exchanging training and technical expertise in a number of fields.
French is spoken by 220 million people across the world.
