FPT signs digital transformation deal with Japan’s Chugoku Electric Power
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s leading tech giant FPT has recently signed a long-term agreement to accelerate digital transformation and strengthen AI- and data-driven operations for Chugoku Electric Power Co. Inc., one of Japan’s top 10 power utilities.
Under the deal, FPT will provide consulting and implementation services across cloud computing, application development, and system modernisation to support Chugoku’s digital transformation initiatives. The cooperation includes the provision of Microsoft 365 (M365) licenses for Chugoku Electric Power and its subsidiaries.
Headquartered in Hiroshima, Chugoku Electric operates a network of nearly 40 subsidiaries and affiliates, according to its 2025 annual report. The agreement builds on an existing partnership between FPT, Chugoku Electric Power and Enecom Co. Ltd., the group’s core IT company.
Do Van Khac, FPT Software SEVP and FPT Japan CEO, said the deal reaffirms FPT’s commitment to driving innovation and modernising IT systems for Chugoku Electric Power. Leveraging its experience in the Japanese market, FPT is adopting an “AI-first” approach to accelerate legacy system transformation, enhance productivity, and unlock new growth opportunities.
“As a market leader in Japan, FPT is proud to bring an AI-first approach that accelerates the transformation of legacy systems, enhances productivity, and unlocks new opportunities for growth,” he said. “By combining advanced AI capabilities with deep expertise in cloud and application modernization, we are enabling Chugoku Electric Power Group to build a more agile, future-ready digital enterprise.”
Makoto Ayukawa, head of DX Promotion Project at Chugoku Electric Power, said the project would also serve as a foundation for deploying AI and automation applications in the future.
“Through our collaboration with FPT, we have been able to deploy Microsoft 365 in a planned manner, contributing to improved communication and collaboration, as well as the expanded use of digital tools in daily operations,” he said.
Microsoft 365 integrates communication tools such as Outlook and Teams while enabling application development and robotic process automation (RPA), helping improve operational efficiency and supporting Chugoku’s shift toward a more flexible, digital-first operating model.
Prior to this agreement, FPT had already delivered a range of Microsoft-related services to Chugoku Electric, including solution deployment, helpdesk operations, and system configuration. The new long-term deal further strengthens FPT’s position as an end-to-end technology partner across Microsoft’s ecosystem.
The expanded cooperation with Chugoku Electric Power and Enecom is also expected to create opportunities for Vietnamese engineers to participate in large-scale digital transformation projects in Japan and beyond.
According to Mordor Intelligence, Japan’s digital transformation market is projected to reach US$236.48 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 24.93% between 2025 and 2030.
