FPT begins trial operations at Bac Ninh semiconductor chip testing plant
VOV.VN - Vietnamese technology giant FPT announced on November 3 that it has begun trial operations at a semiconductor chip testing and packaging plant in Bac Ninh province, featuring six production lines with a maximum designed capacity of 300 million chips annually.
The facility, located in Yen Phong II-C Industrial Park, Bac Ninh province, covers 1,600 square metres and is expected to strengthen Vietnam’s domestic chip testing capabilities and help local businesses integrate more deeply into the global semiconductor value chain.
During its trial phase, it is designed to handle up to 300 million chips annually, meeting the large-volume testing requirements of semiconductor companies.
The facility is working towards compliance with international management standards, including ISO 9001 for quality management, ISO 14001 for environmental management and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety.
It also implements cleanroom environmental controls in accordance with ISO 14644, electrostatic discharge protection measures and reliability testing methods based on industry standards appropriate to each product.
The plant uses automated test equipment (ATE) alongside chip-handling systems to inspect and classify semiconductor chips. Engineers also develop customised testing programmes for different chip types, identifying the parameters to be examined, establishing testing conditions and evaluating results according to their functions and technical specifications.
During the initial phase, the facility will focus on testing chip functionality, quality and reliability, with the aim of providing services to domestic and international semiconductor companies.
Its reliability testing area will subsequently be developed in line with international standards for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories to meet customer requirements.
FPT has assembled a team of experienced semiconductor testing and packaging specialists, including engineers with years of experience at Intel’s Vietnam facility. They are responsible for developing technical procedures, operating equipment and training personnel.
The plant will also serve as a practical training facility. From December 2026, FPT plans to work with FPT Polytechnic College on a pilot programme giving students hands-on exposure to chip testing production lines, equipment and operational procedures.
The initiative is expected to help students develop a better understanding of semiconductor testing and provide practical experience relevant to the industry.
