iTECH EXPO 2026 shifts towards chips, semiconductors and robotics

VOV.VN - Hardware, robotics and chip and semiconductor technologies account for nearly 45% of the exhibition space at the international technology exhibition iTECH EXPO 2026, which opened in Ho Chi Minh City on September 30, highlighting a shift from previous editions that placed greater emphasis on software.

The event features nearly 100 exhibition booths, with more than 200 technology organisations and companies from Vietnam and abroad showcasing over 1,000 products, devices and technology solutions ready for commercialisation

Addressing the expo, Lam Nguyen Hai Long, chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Computer Association (HCA) and head of the organising committee, emphasised that iTECH EXPO 2026 builds on the Vietnam Computer World Expo, first held in 1996.

The event has undergone a significant shift in focus over the past three decades, with the HCA expanding this year’s exhibition to include hardware, network infrastructure, robotics and the chip, integrated circuit and semiconductor ecosystem.

Those areas account for nearly 45% of total exhibition space, while software solutions make up the remaining 55%, Long said.

According to organisers, this year’s event has expanded in scale, with more than 200 technology organisations and businesses from Vietnam and abroad presenting products and solutions ready for commercialisation. Registered visitors come from more than 20 countries and territories.

The event also includes 20 seminars and panel discussions involving more than 100 experts, covering topics ranging from mastering semiconductor and integrated-circuit technologies and dual transformation in smart manufacturing to circular agriculture, urban management and AI applications.

Hoang Minh, deputy minister of Science and Technology, pointed out that digital technology industry revenue in the first nine months of 2026 was estimated at more than VND5.44 quadrillion (US$206 billion), up about 34.8% from a year earlier.

Hardware and electronics exports reached about US$176.82 billion during the period, while Vietnam has around 82,723 companies and 2 million workers in the sector, he stressed.

Minh outlined three priorities for technology development, including moving from adopting and using technology toward researching and mastering core technologies to develop “Make in Vietnam” products.

Technology development should also be tied more closely to commercial product development and practical needs in industries and localities, he said, citing large language models (LLMs), Vietnamese-language virtual assistants, edge AI cameras, autonomous robots, 5G networking equipment and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Vietnam should also strengthen links across its digital ecosystem, with large companies leading the market, startups developing niche solutions, universities and research institutes providing expertise, and international partners helping connect businesses to global value chains, Minh noted.
