Four more Japanese built trains arrive for HCM City metro route

VOV.VN - The Management Authority for Urban Railways of Ho Chi Minh City (MAUR) is receiving four more trains shipped from Japan for its Metro Line No1 linking Ben Thanh Market in District 1 with Suoi Tien Tourist Park in District 9.

On December 7 a container ship carrying trains No.8 & 9 docked at Khanh Hoi port in HCM City where the trains were then transported to Long Binh depo.

Two other trains are expected to arrive on December 8.

According to Hoang Van Tung, deputy director of the MAUR, the COVID-19 pandemic that started last year had badly impacted the project’s construction work. As the city eased restrictions and moved into a new normal, he said contractors are now speeding up construction progress, in order to complete the project at the earliest possible time.

The US$2.05 billion metro line is the first of at least six to be built in the city and aims to ease traffic congestion in its north-eastern gateway.

It is designed to have 14 stations, with three of them underground. There will be 17 three-carriage trains plying the route, running at a maximum speed of 110 km/h overground and 80 km/h underground.
