Four localities register 52 more local COVID-19 cases over 12 hours
VOV.VN - An additional 52 new domestic cases of COVID-19 were detected to be positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus in four Vietnamese localities, including 35 in Bac Giang, 14 in Bac Ninh, 2 in Hanoi and 1 in Thai Binh, the Ministry of Health reported on June 4 morning.
The new cases in Bac Giang and Bac Ninh were mostly found in isolation and lockdown area related to workers working at industrial zones.
Among the two cases in Hanoi, one is a man who contracted the virus after a trip to Ho Chi Minh City and the other case is a person who came into contact with a confirmed coronavirus patient.
The patient in Thai Binh is associated with a former cluster and has already been put into isolation.
Following the latest discovery, the nation has so far confirmed 6,577 local infections, and 1,538 imported ones.
As many as 5,007 locally-transmitted cases were recorded in the latest coronavirus wave that hit the nation more than one month ago.
One day earlier, Vietnam recorded a total of 231 cases of local transmission in seven provinces and cities, with the majority detected in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang, the current largest epicenters in the latest COVID-19 outbreak.
Regarding COVID-19 vaccines, the country is set to receive more than 120 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines this year from multiple sources, according to the Ministry of Health.
Among them, Covax facility, a global vaccine access mechanism, would provide 38.9 million doses for free. Earlier the nation has already received around 2.5 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from Covax in April and May.
So far, the country has received more than 400,000 doses. The Health Ministry has also recently struck an agreement with Russia to receive 20 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine within this year, though the exact time frame has yet to be announced.
The nation aims to secure 150 million vaccine doses to cover 70% of its population this year, said the Health Ministry.
As of June 3, more than 1,156,000 people received COVID-19 vaccine shots, including a total of 31,551 vaccinated with full two doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
