Food poisoning kills 21 people in 11 months
VOV.VN - Vietnam recorded a total of 131 cases of food poisoning during the 11-month period, resulting in 4,796 affected people and 21 deaths, according to the latest report released by the Ministry of Health (MoH).
The number of poisoning cases and infected people increased by 7, and 2,67,7 respectively, but the number of deaths fell by 7 people compared to the same period from last year.
According to the Ministry of Health, among 131 poisoned cases, most were caused by natural toxins in mushroom, fishes and others, while the other causes were due to contamination by micro-organisms.
Notably, many food poisoning incidents were recorded at collective kitchens in some Vietnamese localities in 2024, primarily caused by natural microbial and chemical toxins.
In addition, Salmonella, E.coli and other harmful bacteria were pinpointed to be the cause of a typical food poisoning case that affected 568 people after consuming bread at a shop in Ho Chi Minh City-adjacent Dong Nai province.
To handle the situation, the MoH requested the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to intensify food safety control measures and the traceability of food ingredients, especially from chicken, pork, seafood and fruit and vegetables. School kitchens and food suppliers are encouraged to use standard foods from trusted enterprises.
Strict control of the origin of food ingredients not only helps prevent food poisoning but also ensure consumer health protection.
