Finland to receive Vietnamese workers from 2025

VOV.VN - Finland will recruit Vietnamese workers, starting from 2025, under a newly signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) on labour cooperation between the two countries.

The MoU was signed in Hanoi on January 13 between Vietnamese Minister of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung and visiting Finnish Minister of Eocnomic Affairs and Employment Arto Olavi Satonen.

The five-year document opens up extensive cooperation opportunities and provides Vietnamese workers with access to jobs in fields such as technology, industry, and health care.

During their talks, Dung praised the evolving Vietnam-Finland relationship, transitioning from development partnership to mutually beneficial cooperation. The two countries celebrated 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2023, marked by high-level exchanges, including the official visit of Finland’s Speaker of Parliament Jussi Halla-aho to Vietnam in March 2024, and discussions between Party General Secretary To Lam and Finland’s President Alexander Stubb at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2024.

Dung shared that Vietnam sends approximately 160,000 workers abroad annually, with around 700,000 Vietnamese workers currently employed in 40 countries and territories across 30 fields. Vietnamese workers are recognized for their youth, intelligence, and diligence, earning the trust of international employers, including in Finland.

Since late 2023, he said his ministry has approved three companies providing labour services to Finland, facilitating the deployment of 134 workers. To date, 55 Vietnamese workers have been sent to Finland, earning stable monthly incomes ranging from EUR1,500 to 2,000, with good working conditions and social benefits.

Satonen for his part emphasized Finland’s commitment to strengthening cooperation to help businesses and international professionals connect effectively.

Finland prioritizes ethical recruitment practices, ensuring smooth processes and favorable working conditions for international workers, he said.

The MOU establishes a foundation for transparent, sustainable, and ethical labour migration between the two countries, aiming to prevent exploitation and abuse. It aligns with both sides’ legal frameworks and international standards, ensuring mutual benefits and long-term success in their partnership.

This agreement is expected to enhance Vietnam-Finland labour cooperation, offering Vietnamese workers new opportunities while addressing Finland’s labour market needs.
