Vietnam and Finland to foster cooperation in complementary areas
VOV.VN - Vietnam and Finland should expand cooperation across all areas, with priority to be given to areas where Finland has strengths and Vietnam has needs.
The agreement was reached during a meeting in Helsinki on November 28 between Finnish President Alexander Stubb and visiting Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha.
Stubb praised Vietnam’s recent socio-economic development achievements, emphasizing that Vietnam is an important partner for Finland in Southeast Asia. He expressed his belief that the visit of the high-ranking delegation from the Government of Vietnam led by Deputy PM Tran Hong Ha would be successful, providing new impetus for bilateral relations in the future.
Ha for his part thanked the Finnish Government and people for their invaluable support during Vietnam’s struggle for national independence and reunification, as well as during its ongoing national development and international integration. He highlighted the Finnish water plant projects as a symbol of the friendship between the two countries.
The Finnish President expressed satisfaction with the excellent development of Finland-Vietnam relations and suggested that both countries continue enhancing the effectiveness of cooperation mechanisms while expanding cooperation across all sectors.
The President also noted the positive progress in bilateral trade relations and urged both governments to take stronger measures to foster cooperation to match the potential and demands of both sides.
He recalled his pleasant meeting with General Secretary and President To Lam during the United Nations General Assembly in September 2024 and expressed his desire to visit Vietnam soon.
Deputy PM Ha agreed with the Finnish President’s positive assessments of the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Finland, and expected that both countries would strengthen cooperation in fields such as sustainable development, green transition, and the circular economy.
Exchanging views on regional and international issues, both sides emphasized that, amid a complex and rapidly changing global landscape with growing challenges in traditional and non-traditional security, countries must work together by upholding multilateralism. They highlighted the role of the United Nations in resolving conflicts and narrowing differences through peaceful means based on international law.
The Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed Vietnam’s support for Finland in enhancing its cooperation with ASEAN.
