Fifth monkeypox case detected in Ho Chi Minh City

VOV.VN - A man living in Ho Chi Minh City has tested positive for monkeypox, becoming the country’s fifth recorded case, reported the Ho Chi Minh City Center of Disease Control (HCDC).

The 34-year-old resident first went to Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital for medical checkups after suffering from several blisters, which is one of the main symptoms of monkeypox.

His sample was then sent to The Pasteur Institute that later confirmed the case. The patient is now being isolated for treatment.

According to the epidemiological investigation, the patient, a resident of Binh Chanh district, did not come into contact with any foreigners or travel abroad in the past 21 days.

The HCDC was tracking other people who came into direct contact with the patient in order to minimise the risk of spreading the disease further.

The first case of monkeypox in the country was recorded in 2022 through health screening. The 35-year-old woman contracted the virus from abroad and was immediately quarantined upon return to Ho Chi Minh City.

The HCDC has warned that anyone experiencing a fever; headache; muscle aches and backache; swollen lymph nodes; chills; respiratory symptoms such as sore throat, nasal congestion, or cough, and a rash like pimples or blisters that appear on the face, inside the mouth, and on other parts of the body like the hands, feet, chest, genitals, or anus; should immediately report the issue to their local health station.
