Farm of unique “dragon-scale” chickens in Saigon

A Saigon man named Quang has invested a lot of money to import a special chicken species from the US to breed in Vietnam. He now runs three chicken farms in Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Thap Province.

Besides a farm located on Tran Xuan Soan Road in District 7, Quang has two other farms in Cao Lanh City (Dong Thap) and Cu Chi District (Ho Chi Minh City).
Quang said he paid nearly US$2,000 to buy a pair of breeding chicken from the US. From this pair, he currently has over 120 chickens of this species.
Quang said the price for the chicken varies, from VND3 million up to VND30 million (US$150-US$1,500)/chicken.
The most special characteristic of this species is the legs with scales.
This chicken is priced VND16 million (US$780).
Quang earns VND20-30 million (US$1,000-US$1,500) from his farms.
Quang starts taking care of his valuable chickens at 5am.
It takes Quang 8-10 months to have a mature chicken.
The cost of feed is VND20,000/chicken/day. The average cost to breed a baby chicken until maturity is VND1 million.
