Dozens killed and injured in Hanoi apartment fire

VOV.VN - Dozens of people were killed and injured following a fire breaking out at a mini apartment building in Hanoi at midnight on September 12.

According to initial information from the scene, the fire started at 23:30 p.m. at a mini apartment building in a small alley of Khuong Ha street in Thanh Xuan district.

Around 150 people were living in the 10-story building spanning more than 200 square metres.

Upon receiving news of the blaze, the fire department immediately rushed to the site and climbed up the apartment building in order to rescue people from the fire.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Xuan Co, director of Bach Mai Hospital, reported the hospital has so far received 24 victims, including eight children. Two of them have died, whilst another is in critical condition.

The other victims are currently receiving treatment for suffocation and additional injuries, he said.

Along with Bach Mai hospital, Hanoi Medical University Hospital also received many victims suffering multiple injuries.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked relevant agencies to urgently deal with the consequences of the fire.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung also travelled to the scene in the morning to examine and provide immediate directions.
