Dozens hospitalised after eating Bánh mì in Ho Chi Minh City
VOV.VN - Dozens of people have been hospitalised with suspected food poisoning after eating Bánh mì (Vietnamese sandwich) from an unbranded street-side shop in Vung Tau ward, Ho Chi Minh City.
Vung Tau General Hospital reported on March 4 it had admitted 54 patients as of 7 a.m., all presenting symptoms including abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. Several were said to be suffering from dehydration due to persistent vomiting.
Patients said they had eaten the sandwich at a stall without name on Do Chieu street in Vung Tau ward.
The Vung Tau Ward People’s Committee established an inspection team to conduct a surprise check of the premises after multiple suspected food poisoning cases were reported.
The establishment presented a business registration certificate, a food safety eligibility certificate and health check documentation. However, the owner was unable to provide clear proof of origin for certain raw ingredients.
Authorities collected samples of pate, meat, butter and other related ingredients for rapid testing. Initial results did not detect banned preservatives such as formaldehyde or borax. Nevertheless, the shop has been ordered to temporarily suspend operations pending further laboratory analysis and an official conclusion on the cause of the incident.
