68 hospitalised in suspected food poisoning linked to bakery in Dong Thap

VOV.VN - Sixty-eight people have been hospitalised in a suspected food poisoning case linked to Hong Ngoc 12 Bakery in Hong Ngu ward, Dong Thap province in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, the provincial Department of Health said on February 27.

Hong Ngu Regional General Hospital first admitted three patients at 9:30 a.m. on February 24 who were suspected of food poisoning after eating banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) from the bakery around 7 p.m. on February 23, 2026. The patients experienced abdominal pain, vomiting and repeated diarrhoea.

The number of cases later rose to 68. Of these, 10 have been discharged, two were transferred to other hospitals, five requested home treatment, and 51 remain hospitalised.

All patients were promptly admitted and treated. The Hong Ngu medical centre 1, in coordination with the Culture and Social Affairs Division of Hong Ngu ward, has investigated the incident and taken food samples from the bakery for testing at the Dong Thap Centre for Research, Application and Science-Technology Services.

Verification showed that affected individuals consumed the bread between 5 p.m. on February 23 and 6:30 a.m. on February 24, with symptoms recorded from around 6 a.m. on February 24. The bread was produced at Hong Ngoc 12 Bakery in Ward 3, Hong Ngu ward.

Five food samples, including liver pâté, pork sausage, fried pork roll, ham and pickled vegetables, were collected for laboratory testing to serve the investigation.
