Dak Lak shooting declared act of terror, 75 face terror charges
VOV.VN - The police of Dak Lak, a province in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, have decided to prosecute the recent terror attacks in the locality that claimed nine lives and injured two others.
A group of armed men stormed into the headquarters of Ea Tieu and Ea Ktur communes of Cu Kuin district on June 11 evening. They opened fire on those at work and on those they met on the way they left the buildings.
Nine people were killed, including four police officers, two commune officials and three local people. Two other police officers were seriously injured.
The police have arrested 84 suspects, of whom 75 were accused of opposing the people's administration, and the remainder were charged with concealing crime, not denouncing criminals, and organising, brokering for other people to illegally exit, enter or stay in Vietnam.
Competent authorities have seized 23 guns of all kinds, two grenades, 1,199 bullets, 15 detonators, 1.2kg of explosives, a silencer, two scopes, a set of mock mines, 30 knives, 10 FULRO flags and many vehicles and tools used by the suspects in the June 11 attacks.
The Ministry of Public Security said the Dak Lak shooting was a terrorist attack aimed at opposing the people's administration, causing particularly serious consequences.
The police force have seized documents proving that the group of assailants had been aided and abetted by organisations and individuals abroad, even by those illegally entering Vietnam from abroad to direct the terrorist attack.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the case and will strictly punish the culprits according to the law.
