Dak Lak attacks were ‘deliberately planned’, state the police

VOV.VN - The June 11 attacks which targeted the headquarters of two commune administrations in the Central Highland province of Dak Lak were “organized”, with the assailants being “aggressive, reckless, and inhumane”, reported the Ministry of Public Security.

Lieut. Gen. To An Xo, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Security, was speaking at a press briefing held on June 14, providing more details about the June 11 attacks carried out by a group of assailants on the headquarters of the two People’s Committees of Ea Tieu and Ea Ktur communes.

“When storming into the headquarters of the two communes, the assailants broke the glass door and fired at officials… They continued to use rudimentary weapons to attack and take the victim’s life, and threw petrol bombs to burn down the buildings,” said Lieut. Gen. Xo.

“In particular, they blocked cars and shoot drivers and people when they meet on the way,” he added.

A total of nine people were killed in the assaults, including two commune leaders, four commune police officers, and three local people. In addition, several others were injured.

On hearing of the incident, the Ministry of Public Security deployed forces aimed at hunting those involved. So far, 46 suspects have been arrested, of whom three surrendered themselves. The police urged those who are in hiding to quickly surrender if they want to enjoy leniency.

“The assailants had been ordered to kill commune officers whenever they met, and steal property as well as firearms,” Lieut. Gen. Xo said, citing the statements made by the arrested.

He described their action as, “barbaric and extremely dangerous,”  leading to serious consequences and causing insecurity and disorder in the locality.

“These attacks need to be strongly condemned and promptly handled before the law,” said the spokesperson.

According to the Lieut. Gen., leaders of the Ministry of Public Security have directed competent agencies to take all necessary measures in order to arrest all of the criminals who are hiding, seize all weapons and explosives, and ensure absolute safety for the people.

The Ministry of Public Security requested that synchronous measures be adopted to nip in the bud any plot that might cause insecurity and disorder to ensure similar incidents will not happen again in future.

The Ministry also recommended that local people heighten vigilance against incitements and distortions made by hostile forces attempting to sow division and cause further social disturbances in the region.

At present, life has returned to normal in the two communes and the whole region. Competent agencies are now tracking down the hideouts of the remaining suspects of the two attacks.
