26 arrested after police stations attacked in Central Highlands (update)

VOV.VN - The police have arrested 26 people and rescued two hostages after gunmen attacked two commune police stations in Dak Lak province, Central Highlands of Vietnam, on June 11.

Competent forces also seized a number of military weapons, including CKC rifles, said Ministry of Public Security spokesperson Lieut. Gen. To An Xo.

A group of unidentified people used guns to attack the police headquarters of Ea Tieu and Ea Ktur communes of Cu Kuin district on June 11 morning, killing and injuring a number of policemen, commune officials and local people.

Competent forces were immediately deployed to rescue hostages and hunt for assailants.

The police were said to heighten security measures by setting up checkpoints at entry and exit roads in Ea Ktur and Ea Tieu communes.

By June 12 noon the police had arrested 26 suspects and rescued two hostages, said Lieut. Gen. Xo, adding they were continuing to trace the assailants.

Among three hostages, one escaped on his own, and the other two were rescued by authorities in the afternoon, said Lieut. Gen. Xo.

On the afternoon of June 11, Minister of Public Security To Lam signed a decision to posthumously promote the rank of four policemen who died in the shooting.

The Ministry also provided financial assistance to the bereaved families and those injured in the attack.

The Ministry requested that the people of Cu Kuin district and neighboring areas stay calm and comply with the requirements of local authorities and competent forces.
