Daily tally reaches 9,180, COVID-19 fatalities passes 5,000

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health reported a total 9,180 more new COVID-19 infections, including 30 imported cases on August 13, a drop of 503 from the previous day.

Of the total figure, Ho Chi Minh City continues suffering the highest number of infections at 3,531, trailed by Binh Duong (2,816), Dong Nai (808), Long An (623), Khanh Hoa (243), Dong Thap (152), Can Tho (142), and Tra Vinh (140).

The remaining local infections were reported across other 31 localities, with either single or double-digit cases.

Despite being put under strict COVID-19 curbs, Hanoi still detects local cases within the community, with 97 in total being found in the day, most of which are related to pre-existing infections clusters and are F1 contacts.

Of the latest cases, close to 2,000 have been recorded among the community, with the remainder being found in quarantine zones or in areas under lockdown.

Since the start of the pandemic, Vietnam has documented a total of 255,748 infections, ranking 80/222 countries and territories globally, while with the ratio of infections/1 million people, the nation ranks 172/222 countries and territories (on average, there are 2,601 infections for every 1 million people).

As of August 13 evening, as many as 2,425 imported and 253,323 domestic cases were registered in the country.

The number of new infections recorded nationwide during the fourth wave of COVID-19 outbreaks in late April amounted to 251,950, of which 89,964 patients have been declared free from the virus.

The same day the Health Ministry announced the discharge of 3,593 COVID-19 patients, therefore pushing up the total number of recoveries to 92,738.

A further 275 patients died from the disease across 10 provinces and cities, with the total number of fatalities rising to 5,088.

The country has vaccinated more than 13.2 million people against COVID-19, including nearly 1.2 million receiving two shots.
