Daily local COVID-19 cases rise to 246, 53rd death confirmed
VOV.VN - An additional 83 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases were reported on June 5 evening, thereby raising the national daily tally to 246, according to data released by the Health Ministry.
In relation to the figure, three were 8 imported cases, while among the 246 cases of local infection, the most are in Bac Giang with 149, Bac Ninh with 55 and Ho Chi Minh City with 31.
The number of cases recorded during the latest COVID-19 wave since April 27 has risen to 5,586.
Notably, a further 68 patients were declared to be clear of the virus, taking the total recoveries to 3,310, while the death toll has climbed to 53 following the confirmation of two fatalities on the same day.
The latest fatality is a 53-year-old woman from the northern province of Son La.
Her causes of death is due to septic shock, multiple organ failure, pulmonary Aspergilus infection, pneumothorax, COVID-19 infection and other underlying health issues.
Among the active patients, 376 have tested negative for the COVID-19 at least once or several times.
According to Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Truong Son, Bac Giang, the nation's largest COVID outbreak, is expected to complete the inoculation of 150,000 doses of vaccine on June 5 in a bid to ensure workers have immunity when returning to production activities.
Elsewhere, the northern province of Son La launched the second phase of its COVID-19 vaccination campaign which runs from June 5 to July 30.
During the second phase of their inoculation drive, more than 21,000 people will be vaccinated, including more than 13,000 people who will receive their first shot as part of phase two, and more than 8,000 people who will get their second jab as part of the first phase.
Following the detection of two active COVID-19 cases, the Ha Tinh Provincial People's Committee issued a written document requesting the suspension of a number of non-essential activities and services as part of ongoing pandemic containment efforts.
This regulation came into force from 10:00 a.m. on June 5 and will be in place until further notice. In line with this, business establishments such as bars, karaoke, sauna, and massage parlours must stop operating.
