Da Nang hosts seminar on green transition towards smart, eco-friendly city

VOV.VN - Da Nang city and Tien Phong newspaper on April 21 co-hosted a seminar on green transition aiming to turn Da Nang into a smart, eco-friendly city.

The event, titled “Promoting Green Transition Towards an Ecological and Smart City,” drew around 200 participants, including policymakers, experts, businesses, and relevant organisations. It took place amid a growing global shift toward green transition, which is reshaping urban development models in Vietnam and worldwide.

Delegates examined solutions to accelerate green transition, with a view to realizing Da Nang’s long-term goal of becoming an ecological and smart urban center.

This is not only an environmental direction but also a comprehensive strategy to restructure the growth model, enhance competitiveness, and improve urban living standards, said Tran Nam Hung, vice chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee.

He emphasised that green transition is opening up significant opportunities for the city to attract high-quality investment flows, develop new economic sectors such as clean energy and high technology, and improve residents’ quality of life.

He noted that people and businesses are at the centre of this transition, while authorities play a facilitating role by shaping policies and promoting practical actions through programmes supporting clean technology, energy efficiency, and waste sorting at source.

From a national policy perspective, Nguyen Hong Quang, deputy director of the Environment Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, highlighted that Vietnam is orienting its development toward a green economy model. In this context, green transition, digital transformation, and innovation are identified as key drivers of growth for the 2026–2030 period.

Quang stressed that improving environmental standards, integrating green factors into urban planning, and developing financial instruments such as green credit and green bonds would be crucial for mobilising resources for the transition.

He added that ministries, sectors, and localities would continue refining the legal framework, promoting the circular economy model, and strengthening communication and public education to turn green transition into concrete action across society.

On the sidelines of the seminar, an exhibition space showcasing green products and environmentally friendly technologies attracted strong interest from participants and visitors, with the participation of 35 businesses and organisations in Da Nang.
