COVID-19: One imported case from Russia brings national tally to 1,095
VOV.VN - A Vietnamese returnee from Russia has been diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, bringing Vietnam’s tally of coronavirus cases to 1,095, the Ministry of Health said on October 1.
The new male patient, 49, returned to Vietnam from Russia on flight QH9495 on September 26 and was immediately quarantined after entry into at Can Tho airport. His first test result at the Center for Disease Control of Can Tho city on September 29 was negative for SARS-CoV-2 virus and his second result came back positive for the virus three days later.
Currently, the patient is put into isolation to receive treatment at the Can Tho City Hospital of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease.
Earlier, 17 cases imported into the nation from this flight were also confirmed positive for SARS-CoV-2 and were isolated in Bac Lieu province.
With the new infection, the overall number of COVID-19 cases in the nation rose to 1,095, of which 691 are locally transmitted cases, and 404 cases are imported and placed into isolation immediately upon entry.
On September 30, an additional three COVID-19 patients were given the all-clear after testing negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, taking the overall number of recovery cases to 1,010.
The total figure for cases linked to the coronavirus outbreak in central Da Nang city since the recurrence of the virus in late July stands at 551.
The fatality count remains at 35, mostly elderly people with serious underlying health illnesses.
More than 15,490 people are still under quarantine across the nation, with 266 at hospitals, and the remainder at concentrated quarantine facilities and at home.
Among the positive cases in treatment, 17 have tested negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at least once or several times.
Vietnam has gone four weeks clear of locally transmitted cases so far.
