COVID-19: Daily infections rise by 379 to more than 3,000 on May 4

VOV.VN - Vietnam recorded 3,088 new coronavirus infections on May 4, an increase of 379 cases compared to the previous day.

All the newly detected cases are locally acquired, with two thirds of them diagnosed in the community.

Hanoi topped localities nationwide, registering 705 new cases, followed by Phu Tho (268), Vinh Phuc (198), Nghe An (133), and Quang Ninh (130).

In the south, Ho Chi Minh City, the country’s largest city, reported 36 new cases, followed by Binh Duong (29), Binh Phuoc (17), Tay Ninh (16), and Ba Ria – Vung Tau (14).

Localities that saw the number of infections decrease most compared to the previous day were Da Nang (-35), Yen Bai (-31), and Bac Ninh (-29).

Meanwhile, localities that saw the number of infections rise most compared to the previous day were Hai Duong (+91), Vinh Phuc (+83), and Hung Yen (+48).

On average 4,418 cases were recorded in Vietnam daily in the past seven days.

The same day, the Ministry of Health announced an additional 42,055 patients recovering from the disease, and three more deaths in three localities.

At present, 478 patients are relying on mechanical ventilation and two patients are receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), a sophisticated form of therapy that is used to save the lives of patients in critical condition.

As of 6pm on May 4, Vietnam has confirmed more than 10.6 million infections, ranking 12th out of 227 countries and territories worldwide.

Of the total, more than 9.3 million patients have recovered, and 43,047 patients have died of the virus and underlying illnesses.

More than 215 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered nationwide.
