Vietnam sees first day without COVID-19 fatalities since last July

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health confirmed the detection of a further 2,709 new COVID-19 cases on May 3, with no fresh daily fatalities relating to the disease being recorded for the first time since last July.

The infection count posted a drop of 413 cases from the previous day.

Average number of new infections in the country recorded in the past 7 days was 5,121 cases/day.

Over the last week the daily average stood at 5,121 cases, while the daily average death toll stood at two, down 65%.

The death toll since the beginning of the pandemic remained at 43,044, or 0.4% of the country’s total infections.

Since the start of the pandemic, Vietnam has logged a total of 10,659,358 infections, ranking 12th out of 227 countries and territories globally, while with the ratio of infections per million people, the country ranks 104th out of 227 countries and territories.

Moreover, a further 1,825 COVID-19 patients were declared free from the disease, pushing up the number of recoveries so far to 9,267,281.

In the latest wave of the pandemic which began in April last year, over 10.651 million cases have been reported, with more than 9.26 million already recovering.

As of May 2, the country had injected over 215 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
