COVID-19: 175 new cases recorded in Vietnam, mostly in southern region

VOV.VN - Vietnam has confirmed 172 new locally transmitted and three imported coronavirus cases in 17 cities and provinces during the past six hours, raising its 24-hour caseload to 372, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said in its 06.00pm COVID-19 update on June 29.

Most of the cases were detected in southern provinces with Ho Chi Minh City registering 43 cases alone, followed by Binh Duong (24), Tien Giang (22), Dong Thap (21), Long An (4) and Dong Nai (4).

In the central region, Quang Ngai took the lead with 21 new cases followed by Nghe An (12) and Phu Yen (2).

The northern province of Bac Giang, the country’s largest coronavirus hotspot, recorded 12 new cases, while its neighbor, Bac Ninh, detected two cases.

Elsewhere, one case each was documented in Lang Son, Hung Yen, Binh Thuan, Ha TInh and Ba Ria – Vung Tau.

Three other people tested positive after crossing the Moc Bai International border gate in Tay Ninh province that borders China into Vietnam.

The six-hour figure raised Vietnam’s daily count to 372 cases, with HCM City alone registering 155 cases.

Vietnam has documented 13,054 COVID-19 cases, including 43 deaths, following the resurgence of the virus in late April.

Overall, it has recorded a total of 16,413 cases, including 78 deaths, since the virus attacked the country in January 2020.

An additional 245 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospital on June 29, raising the total number of recoveries to 6,764.
