Contacting Indian experts, hotel staff infected with SARS-CoV-2
VOV.VN - A Vietnamese man working at a hotel in the northern province of Yen Bai has been infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus after having close contact with a group of Indian experts, according to local authorities.
The 63-year-old staff of Nhu Nguyet 2 hotel tested positive after coming into contact with a group of Indian experts who entered Vietnam on April 18, said a representative of the provincial Department of Health.
Four of the experts were later confirmed as coronavirus carriers, said the representative.
The hotel staff was among nine quarantined people who had close contact with the four infected experts, but eight of them tested negative.
The patients were transferred to Hanoi-based Hospital of Tropical Diseases for treatment.
The quarantined people are under close scrutiny locally for medical surveillance.
Vietnam has not detected any locally-transmitted coronavirus infections for the past few weeks.
However, the Ministry of Health has warned about a potential risk of a new outbreak in the country which could originate from imported cases, especially illegal entrants.
It has therefore encouraged local people to strictly follow COVID-19 recommendations, including the 5K message, namely Khau trang (facemask), Khu khuan (disinfection), Khoang cach (distance), Khong tu tap (No gathering) and Khai bao y te (health declaration).
