Cold air mass brings heavy rain to large parts of Vietnam

VOV.VN - A cold air mass is moving southward, bringing heavy rain to large parts of Vietnam, from the northern to central regions of the country, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

Starting from midday and afternoon of April 12, this cold air will begin to affect the northeastern region, and later expand its influence to the northwestern region, North Central Coast, and northern part of the Central Coast.

From the night of April 12, the northern and north central regions will turn cooler, with cold conditions in the northern mountainous areas. From April 13–14, it will be cold at night and in the early morning.

Temperatures will fall to 16–19°C in the lowlands and less than 13°C in the highlands, said meteorologists.

Due to the influence of the cold air mass, the northwestern region and localities from Thanh Hoa to Quang Binh are expected to experience moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain in some areas, starting on April 12 evening.

In the northwestern region, heavy rain will mostly hit provinces like Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Lao Cai, and Yen Bai, with possible thunderstorms, lightning, whirlwinds, and strong gusts of wind.

Meteorologists warned about a high risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, and urban flooding in low-lying areas.

In anticipation of potential extreme weather impact of the cold air mass, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has requested that northern and central localities closely monitor forecasts and warnings, put forces on standby to support communities, inspect and review areas at risk of flooding, flash floods, and landslides, and issue early warnings to protect people’s lives.
