Chinese man arrested after firing gun in Hung Yen traffic collision
VOV.VN - A Chinese national has been arrested after allegedly firing a handgun following a traffic collision in northern Hung Yen province, police said on April 19.
The incident occurred on April 7 on Kinh Do 1 road in Vinhomes Ocean Park 2 urban area, where a car collided with a motorbike driven by a resident from Lao Cai province. The motorcyclist was injured and his motorbike damaged, while the car left the scene.
Initial investigations found that after the collision, a man inside the car drew a handgun and fired one shot from the vehicle. Witnesses said the suspect appeared agitated and was seen manipulating the weapon before the shot was fired. No casualties were reported.
Following the incident, the man and a woman in the car fled the scene. Authorities recovered a spent cartridge case at the site and sent it for forensic examination.
Through camera footage, police identified the vehicle as belonging to a local resident, whose husband, Yu Haiyang, 38, is a Chinese national.
Despite attempting to evade capture by changing vehicles and concealing his movements, Yu was tracked down. On April 8, Hung Yen police, in coordination with Nghe An police, arrested Yu while he was hiding in Nghe An province, central Vietnam.
At the police station, Yu admitted to firing the handgun after the collision and then fleeing the scene. During his escape, he said he had thrown the weapon into the Red River near Binh Minh ferry terminal in an attempt to dispose of evidence.
Authorities have completed initial procedures and transferred the case for further investigation in accordance with the law.
