Canada FM warns ‘climate change’ threatens peace

VOV.VN - Canadian Foreign Minister Stéphane Dion on September 5 held a dialogue with an estimated 250 students from Hanoi universities at which he discussed the security implications of climate change.

Climate change does not cause wars or civil unrest, said Foreign Minister Dion, noting that the cause of political turmoil is multi-faceted. However, it exacerbates or amplifies the risks of political and social unrest.

That is why it is important for Canada to work with other countries such as Vietnam in a holistic approach to combatting climate change. Countries cannot work in isolation to solve climate change, but must work together to tackle it.

At the dialogue an estimated 250 students were in attendance from the four universities of – Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi University of Technology and Hanoi University.
