Vietnam-Canada cooperation to benefit largely from TPP

Canada and Vietnam will have a lot of opportunities to bolster their cooperation stemming from their membership of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.

The remarks were made by Canada’s Consul General Richard Bale at a reception hosted by Nguyen Thanh Phong, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City municipal People’s Committee in Ho Chi Minh City on August 4.

Bale also noted that the relations between Canada and Ho Chi Minh City will also thrive on the back of the two’s TPP engagement.

Phong, for his part, asserted that the local authorities have been working to provide all possible favourable conditions for foreign investors as they have made crucial contributions to the City’s development.

He spoke highly of the trade ties between the two countries, citing the value of CAD4.7 billion made in 2015. Vietnam is Canada’s largest ASEAN trade partner.

In 2015, Vietnam imported CAD353.6 million worth of food and seafood from Canada, a rise of 48.1% from 2014.
