Cambodian man detained for smuggling gold into Vietnam
VOV.VN - A Cambodian man has been arrested for smuggling 1.775 kilograms of gold across the border into the southern province of An Giang.
Chau Rit May, 38, was stopped by the police on September 5 as he was driving his car from Cambodia into Vietnam crossing the Tinh Bien International Border Gate.
Searching his vehicle, relevant forces found a total of 1.775 kilograms of gold and KHR400,000, equivalent to approximately US$97.6.
The accused confessed he had been hired and paid KHR400,000 by another Cambodian national for transporting the gold to a jewellery shop in Tinh Bien town.
The case is now under investigation.
