Cambodia, Vietnam enhance cooperation in crime prevention and control

VOV.VN - Vietnam and Cambodia will step up cooperation in combating all forms of crime, with a particular focus on transnational crimes such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, and cybercrime.

Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha co-chaired a conference in Hanoi on February 19 to review the two ministries’ cooperation in 2024 and outline their collaboration plan for 2025.

Regarding their joint efforts over the past year, both sides underscored their regular exchanges of information on international and regional issues of shared concern. They highlighted their close coordination in ensuring security and safety for major political events and high-level visits in both countries, as well as the successful organization of the first annual conference of the Ministers of Public Security and Interior of Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam in March 2024 in Da Nang.

Both sides also worked closely on managing and dealing with border-related issues, safeguarding previous achievements and advancing demarcation and marker planting efforts along the Vietnam-Cambodia land border.

Amid the evolving crime situation along the shared border, particularly concerning drug trafficking, human trafficking, and online fraud, both countries proactively developed cooperation programs and plans to combat transnational crime.

They intensified the exchange of intelligence, situation updates, and crime prevention outcomes via hotlines while strengthening the effectiveness of their Border Liaison Offices (BLOs). Additionally, their collaboration in tracking international fugitives through diplomatic channels, INTERPOL, ASEANAPOL, and border police forces obtained positive results.

Looking ahead to 2025, Vietnam and Cambodia consented to step up efforts to combat all forms of crime, with a particular focus on transnational crimes such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, and cybercrime. They pledged to crack down on online fraud and gambling networks while continuing to offer mutual support within multilateral frameworks aimed at preventing and combating transnational crime.

At the end of the conference, Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha sides signed the 2025 cooperation plan between the two ministries.
