Vietnam and Laos boost cooperation in crime prevention and control
VOV.VN - Ministries of Public Security of Vietnam and Laos jointly hosted a meeting on crime and drug prevention and control as well as public order and safety maintenance at a meeting in Hanoi on October 15.
The two sides exchanged information and discussed bilateral cooperation in combating human trafficking crime, social order crime, and drug-related offenses, especially along the Vietnam-Laos border. They examined solutions aimed at improving the effectiveness of crime prevention and combat, and signed cooperation documents in the fields of crime and drug prevention.
According to presentations, since the beginning of the year, the two sides have jointly investigated six major cases, successfully dismantling several transnational drug trafficking rings from Cambodia and Laos into Vietnam. Both sides have established hotlines, serving as an important channel for implementing cooperation in crime prevention.
In his remarks at the meeting, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long acknowledged cooperation results in crime prevention between police agencies of the two countries.
He urged the two Ministries of Public Security to continue implementing synchronized, effective, and decisive measures for crime prevention, maintaining public order and safety, and combating drug-related issues, by maximizing the effectiveness of the existing cooperation mechanisms on drug prevention and crime control between the two countries.
He suggested that both sides strengthen the exchange and sharing of information through hotlines; enhance coordination in conducting operational activities and transnational operations; and improve the legal and policy framework for crime prevention and drug control.
The Deputy PM emphasized the importance of allocating resources for crime prevention and combating drug-related issues, enhancing the effective use of equipment, technical devices, weapons, support tools, and other resources for these tasks.
He also highlighted the need to promote international cooperation in drug prevention and crime control, as well as the application of science and technology in the fight against crime to align with the evolving drug and crime situation in both countries.
