Binh Duong hosts Vietnam - China friendship tree planting ceremony

VOV.VN - A symbolic tree planting ceremony was held at Thu Dau Mot University in Ben Cat city, Binh Duong province, on June 5, as part of activities to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China (1950 – 2025).

The event, jointly organised by the People’s Committee of Binh Duong and the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, also marked World Environment Day (June 5).

Delegates planted 70 redwood trees on the university campus, underscoring a shared commitment to environmental sustainability and bilateral friendship.

In his remarks, Bui Minh Thanh, vice chairman of the provincial administration, highlighted Binh Duong’s ongoing efforts to balance economic growth with environmental protection. He revealed that Binh Duong is implementing an urban greening initiative aiming to plant over 2.59 million trees between 2021 and 2025 to improve public spaces and enhance the quality of life for residents.

Thanh emphasised the event’s importance, describing it as a gesture of goodwill and close ties between Binh Duong and the Chinese Consulate General. He also noted the broader spirit of cooperation between Vietnam and China in pursuit of a cleaner, greener future.

Binh Duong currently maintains friendly partnerships with 14 international localities, including Guangzhou, Henan, and Anhui of China. Economic ties with China are particularly strong, with China ranking as the province’s top foreign investor. As of April 30, Chinese enterprises had 1,844 active projects in Binh Duong, with total registered capital exceeding US$11.3 billion.

Speaking at the ceremony, Tu Zhou, acting consul general of China in Ho Chi Minh City, praised the event’s organisation and its significance in strengthening bilateral ties. He described the ceremony as a vivid symbol of the long-standing friendship between the two countries, while noting the deepening cooperation between their local governments and communities.

The diplomat also reaffirmed the commitment of the Chinese Consulate General to fostering people-to-people exchanges and practical cooperation between Vietnamese and Chinese localities to deliver tangible benefits for both countries.
