Vietnam and China launch new cross-border tourism route

VOV.VN - The northern border province of Cao Bang held a ceremony on May 16 evening to announce the opening of a new cross-border tourism route connecting Cao Bang city and Baise city of China’s Guangxi province.

Located in northern Vietnam, Cao Bang province is blessed with breathtaking natural landscapes that captivate visitors. One of its most remarkable assets is the Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark, recognised for its unique geological, geomorphological, and historical values, as well as its rich cultural identity.

Home to various ethnic groups including the Tay, Nung, Mong, Dao, and others, Cao Bang boasts a vibrant and diverse cultural tapestry. This multicultural landscape has created a unique and colourful cultural space, contributing significantly to Vietnam’s and humanity’s broader cultural heritage.

In recent years, Cao Bang has placed a strong focus on developing cross-border tourism, achieving several notable milestones. On October 15, 2024, the Ban Gioc - Detian Waterfall Scenic Area officially opened to tourists after a successful one-year pilot phase, marking a milestone in tourism cooperation between Vietnam and China.

The “two countries – two zones” cooperation model is regarded as a pioneering approach, unprecedented in cross-border economic collaboration, especially in the field of tourism. It aims to establish a model of cross-border and green tourism, promoting sustainable development and mutual growth.

In addition, the upgrade of the Tra Linh (Vietnam) – Long Bang (China) border gate to international status in December 2023, the tourism programme connecting Cao Bang (Vietnam) and Jingxi city (Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China) has become an increasingly popular travel product.

At the ceremony, representatives from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Cao Bằng and from the Bureau of Culture, Media, Sports and Tourism of Baise, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, jointly pressed the button to inaugurate the cross-border tourism route between Cao Bang and Baise and vice versa.

They noted that the opening of the new tourism route marks an opportunity for both sides to continue developing and diversifying tourism products while enhancing the core values of the culture and tourism sectors.

The event also opens up opportunities for both sides to learn from and share experiences in sustainable tourism management and development; to discuss tourism marketing strategies, tourism management, and environmental protection; and to maintain cross-border tourism markets and products, they said.
