VOV.VN - All four Vietnamese students competing at the 59th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad held in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, from May 5 to 12 won medals, including two golds and two silvers, reports the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET).

The two gold medalists are Tran Trung Kien, a 12th-grade student at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted; and Nguyen Ngo Duc, a 12th-grade student at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in the central province of Nghe An.
Meanwhile, the two silver medals went to Dinh Trong An, a 12th-grade student at the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences under Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and Tran Hoang Nam, an 11th-grade student from Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.
The competition was expected to help the Vietnamese contestants to expand opportunities for international academic exchange, foster talent, and provide them with access to high-quality academic activities.
This year’s competition attracted the participation of 192 contestants from 40 countries and territories, including those with strong chemistry education such as China, Russia, the Republic of Korea, and Japan.
The Mendeleev International Chemistry Olympiad is one of the most prestigious and challenging academic competitions in chemistry for high school students.
The event, which is organised by the Faculty of Chemistry at Lomonosov Moscow State University and the Melnichenko Foundation, is dubbed "the toughest chemistry exam on Earth."
The Olympiad is comprised of two theoretical rounds and a practical round, with each round lasting for five hours.
This marks the second time that Vietnam has participated in the competition. Last year, the Vietnamese team earned one gold, five silvers, and four bronzes.
